Peter P. Sena Promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company
AKRON, Ohio, Jan. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Peter P. Sena of Pittsburgh, Pa., has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), a subsidiary of Akron, Ohio-based FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE). Sena, who is currently senior vice president, FENOC Operations, will assume his new position following completion of the proposed merger of FirstEnergy and Allegheny Energy (NYSE: AYE).

FENOC operates the Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport, Pa., Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Oak Harbor, Ohio, and the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, Ohio.
Sena joined the company in 1996 as an assistant shift supervisor at Beaver Valley. In 2002, following a stint as an operational evaluator with the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), he was named manager of Site Operations at Beaver Valley. In 2005 he was named director of Engineering. In 2007, Sena was named director of Site Operations and later that year was promoted to site vice president at Beaver Valley. He was named to his current position in 2009.
Prior to joining the company, Sena was employed by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a resident inspector. In addition, from 1985 to 1990, he was an officer in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Alexander Hamilton nuclear submarine.
Sena earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in fuel science from The Pennsylvania State University. He is a graduate of the INPO senior nuclear plant manager course. In addition, he holds a Senior Reactor Operator license for both Beaver Valley Unit 1 and Unit 2.
The proposed merger of FirstEnergy and Allegheny Energy was announced February 11, 2010, and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2011. It has received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Virginia State Corporation Commission and the Public Service Commission of West Virginia. Shareholders for both FirstEnergy and Allegheny Energy overwhelmingly approved proposals related to the proposed merger. The companies also have applications pending with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and the Maryland Public Service Commission.
