NRG Energy Triple-Matches Employee Donations to Contribute Nearly $300,000 for Japan Disaster Relief

PRINCETON, N.J.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Responding to the devastation and dire humanitarian need of the Japanese people following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, the employees ofNRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG) raised $73,000, which the Company triple-matched through its NRG Global Giving program, bringing the total contribution to $292,000.

Shortly after news of the quake, NRG Global Giving set up a web portal for employees that matched their donations three-to-one, meaning that a $100 donation generated a Company match of $300, for a total donation of $400. The donation was divided between Give2Asia and the Red Crossa™ Japan Fund, with a portion dispersed to emergency aid groups in prefectures such as Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima, which saw the most devastation from the event.
