GE Introduces New Technology

General Electric Co. (NYSE: [ GE ]), a leading worldwide supplier of power generation and energy delivery technologies, has become the first gas engine manufacturer to use two-stage turbocharging technology. The innovation addresses the rising worldwide demand for high-efficiency power generation.

The company will apply this new technology initially to its Jenbacher J624 gas engine, GEa™s largest gas engine. The usage of the technology will increase the existing producta™s energy output by 10% and electrical efficiency by 1%.

The new Jenbacher J624 engine is especially designed for operation in warm and moist environments. It offers greater efficiency and flexibility to customers, providing option for combined heating and power generation (CPH). The new engine is expected to be available to its customers by the summer of 2011.

The new system was developed in collaboration with ABB Turbo Systems Ltd., a group company of ABB Ltd. (NYSE: [ ABB ]). GE received positive response on the new system from one of its pilot customers, Red Harvest. The technology is believed to provide the company prospects for future growth in the gas engine business.

GE had first introduced the J624 gas engine in 2007 and was the worlda™s first 24-cylinder multi-purpose gas engine for commercial power generation.

Operating in more than 100 countries globally and employing about 300,000 people worldwide, GEis a diversified infrastructure, finance and media company. Within energy sector, the company aims to develop and install technology for the efficient use of natural resources. The major competitors of GE are Honeywell International Inc. Co. (NYSE: [ HON ]), Siemens (NYSE: [ SI ]) and United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: [ UTX ]).

We currently maintain our Outperform rating on General Electric.
