Virgil Y. Chan to Lead GAMCOs Asia Operations

RYE, N.Y.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--GAMCO Investors, Inc. (NYSE: GBL) announced the appointment of Virgil Chan to open their Hong Kong office and coordinate our merchant banking and research.

GAMCO has two research offices in Shanghai and Singapore, this move underscores Gabelli's commitment to build its presence and capabilities in Asia.

Mr. Chan has held a number of positions in investment banking and private equity, most recently with Symphony Capital Partners (formerly Schroder Capital Partners) in Singapore.

Mr. Chan received his undergraduate business degree in Finance and Marketing from Washington University in St. Louis. He subsequently earned his MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management as a Sloan Fellow. Mr. Chan, a U.S. citizen, is a Hong Kong Permanent Resident.

Commenting on the addition of Mr. Chan to the Asian operations, GAMCO's COO Douglas Jamieson said, Virgil will add significantly to our research efforts in Asian markets. He will implement investment offerings of our U.S. strategies for the Asian markets and oversee the firm's efforts to take advantage of the many value and growth opportunities we see in China, Japan, and other Asian markets.
